Year 5 - Poetry Slam Competition

Video conference with the author Michael Rosen

28th November 2014

The children in Year 5 took part in a video conference with the author Michael Rosen.  This was a poetry competition where Redbridge schools competed against each other by performing one of Michael's poems.

Michael was the judge and he was looking for performance and inventiveness in each performance.

Our children gave a marvellous performance of his poem "Road" using shadow puppets to bring the story alive.

Everyone enjoyed this video conference and we look forward to the next "Poetry Slam".

Highlands School Council  - Our School Environment

Monday 10th November 2014

On Monday 14th November our School Council members joined with other Redbridge schools to discuss the topic of our School Environment.  This video conference was hosted by the pupils at Mayespark Primary.

The children were given a number of questions to answer about our school environment and they prepared their responses in the last School Council meeting prior to the VC.

They answered questions about:-

  •  What do you like about your school environment?
  • What would you improve about your school environment?
  • Are there any initiatives your school has undertaken to maintain a better environment?
  • What does your school do to support the local environment?
  • Is there anything you think we could all do together to make Redbridge a better environment to live in and why?
  •

This was another lively and interesting VC, with lots of good presentations and ideas to share.

On 7th November the children in Class 4Ow took part in a video conference with the Museum of London.  The session content was about Roman London and the children met a Roman character (actor) who told them about his life in Londinium, the key places; what people ate; their religious beliefs and the importance of social status in Roman society.

Tis VC supported the children's learning on the topic of  the Romans.
