This term in Year 4 the children have been excited and motivated by our topic 'Scrumdiddlyumptious'. We began our learning journey by transforming our classrooms into giant peaches in line with our English text; James and the Giant Peach. We then explored the different characters in the book and wrote character descriptions. With our rights respecting hats on, we wrote persuasive letters to James and argued the reasons why he should leave his horrible aunts. Linking our Science and English learning, we trekked through Wanstead Park to look at the habitats of living things, their food sources and what hazards there were. With this knowledge in mind, we built our own wormeries and ensured we included all the things living things require to survive. Linking to ‘Scrumdiddlyumptious’, in Geography we have looked at where foods are sourced and how they travel to the UK. In Art, we took inspiration from Giuseppe Arcimboldo and created our own fruit faces using different items of food.
In addition to our learning on living things, we researched information about our year group endangered species, the orangutan. We produced posters, persuasive letters and art work capturing why we feel orangutans need our help and how we can go about doing this.
In History, we travelled back in time to the Greeks and looked at the Greek Gods and Goddesses and their roles. The children learnt about the impacts that Greeks have had on modern times when looking at the Olympic Games.
Year 4 are looking forward to going on their trip to the cinema and the chocolate museum later on this term. We are also excited about started Charlie and the Chocolate factory!
