Last year we adopted a pot of 5 tiny caterpillars, the children really enjoyed watching them eat food and wriggle around.

We observed the caterpillars grow bigger and bigger. In time, they all crawled to the top of the pot then hung downwards in a ‘j’ shape before hardening into a chrysalis.

Unfortunately we had to all stay at home after that, so the pot of chrysalis’s were looked after by a teacher. She checked on them every day, until after a week and a half butterflies began to emerge!

The butterflies were then released into the wild on a warm spring day… Take a look at their adventure below.
