This week in Maths, we will be learning about fractions and strategies to solve word problems in relation to fractions. We will be looking at identifying fractions, how to calculate equivalent fractions and fractions of amounts.
The first thing we would like you to do is, to have a conversation with your grown up about all fractions.
What is a fraction? What fractions can you recognise/write? Where do we use fractions in real life? Why are fractions important? What is the denominator of a fraction and what is the numerator?
Below is a PowerPoint about fractions, work through the PowerPoint, answering the questions along the way. If you’re unsure ask an adult to explain.
Mrs Qureshi has kindly recorded a video demonstrating how to identify fractions around your home. Please watch carefully to remind yourself on how we recognise and identify fractions.
Now that you are familiar with how to recognise fractions, we would like you to walk around your home and identify or calculate at least 5 or more fractions. You can be as creative as you like. Use Mrs Qureshi’s video for inspiration.
We would like you to take photos and email them to your class teacher
