This week, we will be looking at strategies to solve multiplication number and word problems.
The first thing we would like you to do is, to have a conversation with your grown up about all the different methods of multiplying you can think of. Which ones have we spoke about in school? Which one do you like using? Why do you like using this method?
Below are three videos demonstrating different methods we can use to multiply. The first one illustrates the arrays method, the second video models using repeated addition on a number line and the final video shows how to use grid method to multiply.
Use the PDF below to work through Mrs Knitters problems using the multiplication method you most feel comfortable with.
Use your chosen method (arrays method, repeated addition on a number line or grid method) to answer the following chilli challenge questions.
Begin with Mild, if you find this easy move onto Hot and then Flaming Hot.
You need to complete at least 8 questions but if you can do more - that's even better! The more practise you get the better you will be at it. There is also a Multiplication Square below to help.
When you have finished, do not mark them, as you will be self-assessing tomorrow!
Talk to your grown up about anything you found challenging and see if they can support you in figuring where you are getting stuck.
